A funny thing happened when my friend agreed to a make-over in Indy.
She told them she’d always wanted fuller lips. She is not a big-mouth either with large lips or in her speech. You guessed it. The so-called experts designed her some new lips, larger than her present lips. They worked and drew; they made her lips defined and much larger.
A funny thing happened later that day when the lines and lipstick began to wear off. She felt like a clown. She walked around to the locations she needed to go to and was planning on dinner with a friend. Her lips were fading, her confidence was fading and she was trying to hide rather than enjoy the afternoon.
If my friend had been getting a picture taken, the fake lips might have looked quite good but in real life they looked quite ridiculous. She was humiliated and could not wash off the stain of her would-be lips. Sunglasses helped. I suggested a large hat might prove to be quite nice.
She laughed but realized that something she’d always wanted could not happen temporarily with red pencils. The result was funny but not comfortable. She did look like a clown. All she needed was a big red nose. At that point, any color big nose would have helped.
Then I suggested lip fillers, in a light-hearted way knowing she would never do it. I’d rather see my friend look real than with false lip lining that doesn’t look like her at all.
We try to improve in ways that work. We attempt to improve ourselves with many options that don’t last. She looks fine without large full lips and believe me, much better all day long on a normal day.
The same goes for the heart. Choosing life that lasts is essential. Are we choosing frivolous short-time changes that fade? As lessons from those changes we realize we are not always true to ourselves. My choices must come from above.
Although distracted and busy, I realize giving time and listening to my source of power is all I need for a make-over. Sure, I love to be fussed over and get ideas for physical newness but only one deity can give me that heart make-over that lasts forever.
Be brave. Be strong. Be confident.
Be happy with who you are but always strive to make-over more of your true self everyday. Bloom.
